Management, Maintenance and Optimisation of Desalination Plants

This was the title chosen by InfoEnviro for the Technical Conference it organised in cooperation with the Zaragoza Trade Fair Centre within the framework of SMAGUA 2012. The conference was sponsored by Mettler Toledo and took place on the morning of March 6. It attracted over eighty five attendees and boasted the participation of ten experts, who spoke on policy and management plans in Spain, the main issues affecting desalination plants and the most significant technical innovations in this field. The papers presented provided new perspectives and relevant information for all professionals working in the desalination market, both in Spain and abroad.

Honaine Desalination Plant (Algeria)

The Honaine desalination plant located in the surrounding areas of the city of Oran (Algeria) is now in operation. The plant is designed to produce 200,000 m3/day of quality water to cover the needs of a population of 750.000. The Geida consortium, made up of Spanish companies Sadyt, Cobra-Tedagua, Befesa and Codesa, was awarded the contract for the design, construction and operation of the plant, on a concessionary basis for a period of 25 years. The cost of the facility amounted to approximately 226 million dollars.
